Today is Eke
The first day in Igbo 4 day week circle.
Today, is dedicated to Eke, the python.
I eat Eke but not the Eke worshipped in most part of igbo land, predominantly in Anambra.
But those who accuse me, eat other types of snake but do not know the type of Eke their forefathers worshipped and still reverence.
What is worshipped in igbo land is Python regius West African Dwarf Python or Ball Python. It nonvenomous constrictor, smallest of the African pythons, growing to a maximum length of 182 cm (72 in)
Out of respect to those who worship it, I do not eat it within their community or 4 days before visiting such communities.
Up North where I live for now, the python I regularly eat, is Central African rock python, Python sebae.
