“I’m a signatory to Owerri North zoning arrangement, and wish to state that, It’s unethical to shift the goal post in the middle of a game”* – Prince Lemmy Akakem in reference to efforts by PDP candidate to contest for Imo House of Assembly the second time in clear violation of Owerri North zoning arrangement and charter of equity.

The apex leader of APC in Owerri zone Prince Lemmy Akakem on Saturday 4th of March, 2023 at Agbala community Primary School reaffirms that it’s the turn of Uratta bloc to represent the LGA in the Imo state House of Assembly. Akakem made the declaration in his brief comment as the Chief guest of honour in the Owerri North LGA stakeholders sensitization rally organized by “Owerri North Consultative Assembly” in conjunction with Presidents General of the 21 autonomous communities in Owerri north LGA, the political class, college professors and the academia, union of teachers, Artisans, pensioners, among others.

In their opening remarks, the conveners, Eziopara Ben Anyanwu and Hon. Dan Ikpeazu chronicled the history and beneficiaries of the zoning arrangement till date and concluded that it’s indeed the turn of Uratta bloc to represent Owerri North LGA in the state assembly. Ikpeazu further said irrespective of his tenure been referenced as the best so far in the history of Owerri North, he did not cease the opportunity to abuse the zoning arrangement that brought him into power. He warned those who lack self discipline to adhere to the rules of the game, that their greedy enterprise will end in a complete failure.

The candidates of the parties subsequently took time to highlight their selling points to people of Owerri North LGA.
Hon. Kelechi Ofurum representing APC in his speech, urge people of Owerri North to vote for him because he has the requisite experience as a former council chairman and a member of the party in power at the national, state and LGA. He spoke on the imperative of connecting to the national grid politically to attract the much needed dividend of democracy to our people. He further said politics of opposition is a waste of vote and attributes the failure of Phillip Ejiogu to accomplish anything tangible during his tenure to opposition politics.

In his speech, Barrister Canice Madukaji (Obulimba), representing APGA, whose oratory prowess is legendary did not disappoint his audience either. He referred to himself as a square peg in a square hole, because according to him, “been a reputable lawyer with track record of community service, it will be most appropriate to allow lawyers to handle the responsibility of law making”.

In his own comment, Mr. Udochukwu Ogumba “Young”, representing (LP), urge the support of people of Owerri North LGA because he represents the restive youths of Owerri North who are craving for the opportunity to serve their people. He told his audience that he has a verifiable record of benevolence acts and community development and further promised to pay special attention to the women and less privileged among our communities.
The only woman in the race urge support for the women fold, because the are the care givers and managers of the home.

In his comment, Hon. Tochukwu Okere used the opportunity offered by the rally to thank the good people of Owerri North LGA for their massive support in electing him to represent them at the green chamber, he promise to deliver manifest dividend of democracy. Other speakers includes, former honourable council chairmen, Austin Achilike and Dacosta who gave the vote of thanks.
