When the European Missionaries came, they met African worshipping African Gods with African musical instruments and eulogizing them with names.
The European Missionaries came with hymn books, organs and regimented form of worship alien to Africans. Their attempts to force us, to worship as though we are mourning, failed as Africans are deeply spiritual, worship their God as his spirit demands on any given market day.
The new converts, mostly outcasts, taught them; “if you want to catch monkey, you must behave monkey.”
The missionaries, started accepting African style of worship and eulogies meant for African Gods were baptized to be for their European god.
But when I attend Christian Churches these days and hear the African names they call their God and his son Jesus, I laugh. They are subconsciously worshiping African Gods and these names are uniquely African and not that of any Jehovah or Yahweh.
So I ask, what name do you call your God? If not Yahew or Jehovah, you are not calling on the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob but the African God, who has manifested to you.
You cannot call a man, a name that’s not his and expect him to answer, in a robust manner he would’ve responded if you called him by the name his parents gave him at birth or the nickname his peers knew him with during their puberty growing up days.
