Like all mortals nearing old age and death, I am fully interested in what happens when I die. Fridays across South East, has conventional been declared the Day of The Dead. Every Friday, carnival processions start from the mortuaries dotted around South East, for final journey of the body of the dead, to their homes, for final sleep over in their houses, before they are finally planted in their resting places.
Will the sprout? Will they resurrect? When, in what form? But looking at my grandfather, grandmother and fathers graves and knowing that they have been dead for over 10 years, my grandpa-60yrs plus, I cannot help but wonder, where are they? With their bones rotten, will they come back to this earth?
Scholars and Masters before me, have also dealt with this. I guess our interest in the hereafter is because we cannot comprehend that life ends. We find it difficult to accept that we can enter into state of dark nothingness at death.
Against this, some have opined that life is an energy and energy cannot be destroyed but transforms from one state to another, like water moves from solid-ice, to liquid to gas-steam without losing its constituent atoms; Man energy moves from mortality to immortality through death.
I am also interested in what form of energy we will become after life as we know it here has ended. Do we reincarnate? Are we conscious of here we had left? Will we be able to intervene in the affairs of our loved ones we left behind?
The major religious books that had brainwashed Africans, assure their devotees of life full of enjoyment and debauchery, in the hereafter.
African religion believes that in death, we become ancestors and will be reverenced by the living, depending on how worthy we lived within the rules of the society or our ability to bend rules of the society and comply the gods and previous ancestors to obey us.
Africans also believe in reincarnation of souls cut in their prime or souls their presence are needed to stabilize the society in the next generation after such had become immortal.
