Mr Alex Nwaogu from Umugaa Umunagbor in Amagbor- Ihitte Ezinihitte Mbaise local government area of Imo is currently at the State CID Owerri, Imo State, after butchering his wife to a coma over a disagreement that arose due to the inability of the wife to serve him evening food on time.
The incident, which took place on the 6th of April 2024, at Umugaa Amaogbor Ihitte saw Mr Alex butchering his wife and inflicting multiple injuries before leaving her to die.
According to the story, the Amagbor Ihitte-born wife-beater had shot the wife two times and the gun refused to fire before he took the nearby matchet to butcher the mother of his four children as she was asleep around 1. pm.
Sensing that his wife, Mrs Kasarachi, who bore for him four lovely children (three sons and one daughter), had given up the ghost, he went and surrendered himself to the police station
As of the time of filing this report, we found out that the wife is currently at the Intensive Care Unit of FMC Owerri, where doctors are battling to save her life.
Angered by such a barbaric act, the youths of Umunachi Ezeagbogu, where the wife comes from and the youths of Amagbor Ihitte on Monday took to the streets and the palace of Amagbor’s traditional ruler for a peaceful protest, calling for justice for Mrs kasarachi.
Speaking to newsmen, one of the protesters who is also the brother of the victim, Mr Chris Egbule called for justice for her sister, saying that the family and the Community at large will go to any length to ensure that Mr Alex is prosecuted and face the consequences of his action.
During a further conversation with another brother of the victim, Mr Lambert Uche, he shared with us how his sister’s 16-years-old marriage between her sister and Alex had been hellish on the side of her sister, as Alex had been physically abusive towards her, turning her into a punching bag. According to him, the family had reported the matter to the traditional ruler of their community on several occasions and had even taken their sister away, but on these occasions, the husband (Alex) would come begging and promising to change his behaviour.

Mr Uche narrated a similar incident that happened last year where Mr. Alex beat the woman up and the matter was judged by the traditional ruler of the Amagbor community, HRH Eze Mike Ndudiri Orji (Dim Mgba 1 of Amagbor), who asked them to take their sister with them until Mr Alex became a changed person. But last year, Mr. Alex, accompanied by members of his community, came begged and promised that the abuse would not happen again. However, Mr. Uche said he was surprised when he received news on Sunday, the 7th of April that Mr Alex had butchered his sister to a state of coma.
Speaking further, Mr Lambert said his family and his kinsmen do not want to take the laws into their own hands, and that’s why they are calling on Nigerians, especially the civil society organizations and human rights activists to intervene so that his sister gets the required justice.
