Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi representing Imo East (Owerri Zone) in the senate has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read Onyewuchi’s defection letter on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.
The defection was witnessed by Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), who was present in the chamber. The process of Onyewuchi’s defection started long ago as he had been hobnobbing with APC in the State.
Last week, the senator perfected his move in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State rally where the APC South East held her meeting.
In 2011, he contested the House of Representatives under APGA and won, later he defected to PDP in 2015 and re-contested the House of Reps which he won.
Again, in 2019 Senator Onyewuchi won the senate under PDP, and in 2023, he dumped PDP after losing the primary and defected to LP and won the senate seat.
