My daughter told me, it means Generation Z. Zed as in the last letter of the English alphabet. Gen Z, is the last generation.
I asked, so after Gen Z, the world will come to an end? There won’t be any other craze, no other outlandish fashion?
This claim that Gen Z, is the last, the personification of all the goodness of generations A-Y, remains me of the claim by Francis Fukuyama, in his book, The End of History and the Last Man.
In this book, the author claims that, “with the ascendancy of Western liberal democracy—which occurred after the Cold War (1945–1991) and the dissolution of the Soviet Union (1991)—humanity has reached “not just … the passing of a particular period of post-war history, but the end of history as such: That is, the end-point of mankind’s ideological evolution and the universalization of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government.”
Well, since 1992 he published, global events, have shown that Western styled Democracy forced down the throat of other hemisphere, is a fraud and not the end of evolution of other forms of governance to meet the need of humanity.
Akin to this, I make bold to say, Gen Z, is not the end. It is merely a media creation, lazily applied to justify the crazy, nonconformity behaviour of our children.
We excuse bad behaviour, justify rudeness and individualism, conveniently on the altar of, “you know these Gen Z children.”
Uncomfortable truth is, this Gen Z children are bringing nothing new but hiding their incompetence and refusal to take correction. Like the Nza chick, they think their feathers, will be more glorious than their parents but when the chip are down at 32, they will realise that not all that glitters are gold.
Researchers and popular media use the mid-to-late 1990s as starting birth years and the early 2010s as ending birth years, with the generation most frequently being defined as people born from 1997 to 2012.
Most members of Generation Z are the children of younger Baby Boomers or Generation X.
In many countries, Gen Z youth are more likely to be diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and psychiatric disorders than older generations.
Around the world, members of Generation Z are spending more time on electronic devices and less time reading books than before, with implications for their attention spans, vocabulary, academic performance, and future economic contributions.
